The upgrade to phpbb3 in 2008 caused everyones avatars to stretch out of size. Not sure why. But in your profile, if you go to the avatar area and input the height and width sizes, it will make everything look ok. If you're not sure of the exact size, you can play with the measurements until it's right.

You can also right-click on your avatar and click VIEW PICTURE to view the picture in its original form.... usually the browser then tells you the correct dimensions in the title bar at the very top of the browser window.
